Job Summary
Respond to locate requests within legal time limits by accurately locating and marking cables, pipes, and conduits using proper APWA coloring standards. Read utility maps to identify underground infrastructure, operate electronic locating equipment, and complete required paperwork for line crossings and excavations. Perform daily safety meetings, submit documentation, and report incidents or opportunities for improvement while adhering to all technical procedures. Gather equipment for project kickoffs and communicate work scopes to field-based teams. Maintain operator qualifications and ensure compliance with company and client guidelines. Work in rugged outdoor environments across various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and snow, while traversing terrain and working in confined spaces. Participate in on-call rotation and handle overtime as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 21 years of age or older
- High School Diploma
- Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow
- Physical stamina to walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Available to work overtime and weekends as needed
- Availability to participate in on-call rotation
- Valid driver's license
- Safe driving record
- Capability to operate a company vehicle and use general hand/power tools
- Comfortable working in confined spaces
- Able to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities
- Must have strong critical thinking, organizational, problem solving, and troubleshooting abilities
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Commitment to working safely and producing high quality, ethical service
- Comfortable with utilizing a laptop, Microsoft Office programs and cell phone
- Ability to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment
- Ability to traverse rugged terrain, excavations and work around pipe and equipment
- Must be able to travel to offsite locations for extended periods of time
- Frequent periods of standing for long periods
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 lb
- Exposure to all types of weather and terrain
- Ability to work long hours for extended periods
- Ability to sit at a desk and work with a computer for extended periods
