Job Summary
Provide line clearing and tree trimming for the City of Claremore Electric Department, trimming or removing trees within electric easements as a crew member under the supervision of the Foreman and Trimmers. Learn to operate a bucket truck at heights up to 75 feet and climb poles up to 100 feet using climbing equipment to cut, trim, and prune trees. Maintain and repair equipment, report damaged electrical systems, and operate chainsaws and other power tools. Work extra and irregular hours, including storms, extreme temperatures, and darkness, while managing a fear of heights and adhering to strict safety protocols. Possess a valid Class B CDL with air brakes or obtain one within 90 days, along with CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to learn to work from a bucket truck at heights up to 75 feet
- Ability to work around and near power lines
- Must have a Commercial Driver's License Class B with air brakes (CDL) or ability to obtain within 90 days
- Demonstrate the ability to learn the use of climbing equipment, climbs and works at heights of up to 100 feet, cutting trimming and pruning trees
- Willingness and ability to work extra and irregular hours as utility needs may require
- Willingness to work under unusual or special working conditions including storms, extreme temperatures, winds, and darkness
- Must be willing to operate chainsaws and other power equipment
- Must possess a Valid Oklahoma State Driver's License
- Must have a valid State Class B CDL with air brake and standard transmission endorsement or ability to obtain within 30 days from date of hire
- Must be insurable with City's insurance carrier
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification or ability to obtain one within 30 days from date of hire
- Must be able to manage a fear of heights
- Must be mentally and physically prepared for unforeseen emergencies at all times
- Good physical condition and sufficient strength and agility to climb poles and trees
- Must pass a physical examination at a facility designated by the City of Claremore
- Must be able to wear appropriate protective clothing/gear to complete assigned tasks in accordance with APPA safety manual
- Must be willing to remove all jewelry including wedding ring while in performance of job duties
- Must be able to communicate and receive verbal instructions at distances of up to 300 feet
- Must observe safety concerns and assist other repairers to be working in safe environments
- Must be able to work in outside weather conditions
- Must be able to work near moving mechanical parts, machinery, or in high precarious places
- Must be able to handle exposure to offensive smells, dust, dirt, water, wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, traffic, toxic/caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration
- Must be able to work around hazardous equipment and electricity
