Utility Inspection Laborer

Job Summary
The Utility Inspection Laborer assists Field Leads with utility infrastructure inspection, maintenance, and restoration. Responsibilities include working safely and independently, transporting equipment, using hand tools to excavate and backfill around structures, applying preservatives/coatings to ground-line areas, assisting with installation of trusses for deteriorated structures, maintaining equipment and vehicles, inventory management, and adhering to company policies and safety procedures. The role involves outdoor work in variable weather, substantial physical effort, and frequent travel/out-of-state duties. Must be 21+, possess a valid driver’s license, pass pre-employment screenings, and be willing to travel; overtime and weekends may be required. Koppers Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- No prior experience or training required
- 1-year utility industry experience preferred
- Additional experience working in the construction industry or related field a plus
- Must be capable of working in a physically demanding role with ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach with hands and arms, and regularly lift up to 75 lbs
- Must be 21 with a valid driver's license
- Must be able to work outside in variable terrain and weather conditions
- Must be capable of walking several miles a day over various type of terrain
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required
- Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check
- Must be willing to travel which may include air as required
- Extended work weeks and additional hours are probable during peak work periods or for specific jobs
- Must maintain a consistent attendance record and be available for work Monday through Saturday and sometimes Sundays as needed
- Must be able to work in all outside weather conditions (wet, hot, cold)
- Able to work at a moderate noise level
- Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and walk for various periods of time
- Must wear minimum 6” high lace up boots with hard toe, reflective vest, hard hat, gloves, ear plugs and safety glasses
- Ability to lift up to 75lbs
