Utility Foreman

Job Summary
Oversee daily tasks of the utility crew installing sanitary, storm water sewer, and water supply systems. Read project plans and specifications to coordinate pipe routes, follow blueprints, and determine installation sequences. Report work progress to the Superintendent and inspect sites for hazards, sequencing, and safety compliance. Coach team members on proper construction techniques and monitor crew organization, sizing, and wage compliance. Maintain active awareness of surroundings near equipment and underground utilities to ensure employee safety. Complete required paperwork and interpret production schedules while complying with federal, state, and erosion control regulations. Perform strenuous physical work in varying weather conditions, including climbing into excavations and working in confined spaces.
Required Qualifications
- 3 or more years' of experience with water lines, storm water lines, sanitary sewer, and underground utilities
- previous foreman experience
- Must complete the required trenching and excavation training requirements set forth by OSHA
- Must be able to perform the essential tasks satisfactorily
- Must be well organized with a sense of urgency
- Must demonstrate excellent safety awareness, and a willingness to comply with company policies and safety standards
- Must be able to work with others to achieve company results
- Have the ability to think critically to analyze information and make sound decisions
- Effective communication with others
- Must have reliable transportation to be at work when scheduled
- Must be able to travel
- Must be able to adapt and adjust to changing situations and priorities with a positive attitude
- Must wear proper attire at all times including: safety vests, hard hat, safety glasses when appropriate, long pants, hard sole/close-toed shoes, and reflect a clean and presentable image
- Continuous mental and visual attention
- Must be able to lift, pull, and push up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat twist, and climb in to heavy equipment several times throughout the day
- Must be able to balance at heights up to 6 feet from ground level
- Must be able to climb on and off heavy equipment safely while maintaining three (3) points of contact
- Must be capable of being certified to enter confined spaces
- Must be able to perform essential tasks in less than favorable conditions
- Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel fumes, vapors, dust, grease, and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment
- Must be able to be on your feet regularly and use hands, arms, and legs repeatedly on the job
- Must be able to frequently walk on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces
- Must be able to work in confined areas
- Must be able to work in varying temperatures, humidity, sand, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time
- Must pass pre-employment screening, including a drug test
