Utility Engineering Lead - Austin, TX

Job Summary

Lead utility engineers, coordinators, and inspectors on highway design and construction projects, including large-scale TxDOT Interstate initiatives. Manage personnel, budgeting, and scheduling for Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and utility coordination tasks involving conflict analysis and adjustment of utility locations. Review project documents, utility plans, and technical specifications to ensure accuracy, while communicating with utility owners, TxDOT, and contractors to resolve conflicts and set schedules. Support engineering staff in utility relocation design, produce layouts in Bentley OpenRoads Designer, and lead contract pursuits including proposal writing and client interviews. Deliver technical reports and specifications within project deadlines while coordinating assignments across the discipline group.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas
  • 10+ years of experience, after attaining PE license, in leading a team as described above in utility management for conflict identification and clearance on transportation projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
  • Ability to represent Lochner in meetings, conferences and interviews with potential clients
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to mentor engineers and technicians
  • Must be alert to equipment in the field
  • Occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery
  • Occasional need to walk on uneven ground
  • Exposure to dust, gas or fumes
  • Exposure to noise
  • Exposure to extremes in temperature or humidity
  • Potential work at heights
  • Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, stoop, crawl, and lifting
  • Must frequently lift and/or move light equipment up to 20 pounds

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in roadway, drainage and bridge design or construction engineering
  • PE experience working on TxDOT projects
  • Experience using Bentley OpenRoads Designer software
