Utility Coordinator

Job Summary

Conduct utility coordination and locating by searching for, identifying, and labeling underground public mains, electrical wires, conduits, and fiber optic cables. Perform field inspections of sanitary sewer and storm water systems, including manhole checks, smoke testing, flow monitoring, and GPS locates. Utilize detection equipment, maps, and GIS software to locate facilities, contact service owners to clarify requests, and accurately document findings with detailed field notes. Operate and maintain instruments while adhering to all safety requirements and obtaining necessary certifications such as confined space entry and CPR/First Aid. This role involves traveling up to 50% of the time, working weekends and overtime on a variable schedule, and requires a high school diploma with five years of professional utility locate experience.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • 5+ years of professional experience in performing utility locates
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Ability to meet the assigned company's regulatory insurance requirements for owned autos determined through Motor Vehicle Record Check (MVR)
  • OSHA 10 Hour certification
  • Confined space entry certification
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondences, and memos
  • Ability to write complex correspondences
  • Ability to effectively present information
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals
  • Ability to interpret and manipulate complex computer software programs including, but not limited to: geographic information systems (GIS), Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Word, email applications, and other industry/project specific software systems
  • Ability to utilize a tablet for purposes of documenting field inspections
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit number and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's
  • Ability to perform these operations using unity of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance
  • Ability to read a ruler to 1/16"
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Meeting safety device manufacturer's maximum rated load capacity of no greater than 310lbs
  • Standing and walking for long durations, which could exceed 8 hours in a day
  • Using hands and fingers to control, handle and feel objects
  • Seeing details of objects from a distance
  • Entering confined spaces (i.e., sewer manholes)
  • Climbing stairs and walking on uneven terrain
  • Squatting and crawling
  • Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 75 pounds when necessary
  • Sitting for long period of time which could exceed 8 hours in a day
  • Staring at a computer screen for long periods of time which could exceed 8 hours in a day
  • May be required to travel up to 50% of the time
  • May be required to work weekends and overtime while accommodating a variable schedule
