Utilities Operator

Utilities Operator at Celanese in Hopewell, VA with responsibility for operating and monitoring utility services for the site (steam, compressed air, chilled water, cooling water, potable water, Dowtherm, rainwater, and waste hauling) and supporting the Environmental and Safety performance. Role includes rotating 8-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays, working as a Lone Worker, covering overtime as needed, and handling chemicals in water and waste treatment. Essential duties include starting burners and pumps, monitoring pressure, temperature and draft, adjusting valves and controls, maintaining logs, operating and controlling pumps and compressors, monitoring dowtherm levels, ensuring continuous dry air supply, and supporting Emergency Response Team activities. Requires self-motivation, ability to work with minimal supervision, and coordination with contractors for permits; preferred qualifications include knowledge of boilers, chillers, air compressors, cooling towers, water chemistry/testing, instrumentation, and proficiency with Word/Excel/SAP.
