Job Summary
The Utilities Manager will oversee site-wide utility operations for cGMP manufacturing, including HVAC, WFI, clean steam, boilers, chillers, BAS/BMS, and other critical utility systems. Responsibilities include leading maintenance and reliability programs, supervising maintenance and custodial staff, coordinating external maintenance contractors, developing SOPs and documentation, optimizing the CMMS/EAM system for preventive and corrective work, partnering with Manufacturing, Engineering, Validation, Quality, and EHS to align utilities performance with production and regulatory expectations, and driving a safety/compliance-focused culture. The role also oversees annual shutdowns and provides regular updates and detailed reports to the Associate Director, Facilities Operations. Qualifications emphasize 1-5 years in facilities maintenance management, 5-10 years in biopharma, strong utility knowledge (HVAC, WFI, clean steam, boilers, chillers, BAS/BMS), cGMP validation, CMMS proficiency, leadership, RCA/problem-solving, cross-functional communication, and budgeting/vendor management.
Required Qualifications
- 1-5 years of experience in facilities maintenance management
- 5-10 years of experience with a biopharmaceutical company
- Strong knowledge of critical utilities including HVAC, WFI, clean steam, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, compressed gases, and BAS/BMS systems
- Ability to read P&IDs and technical drawings
- Deep understanding of cGMP requirements, validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), and maintaining systems in a validated state; experience with deviations, CAPAs, and change control
- Proficient in CMMS/EAM systems (e.g., SAP PM) for planning, scheduling, and tracking maintenance
- Leadership experience: coaching and developing technical teams; managing contractors
- Strong troubleshooting, RCA experience, and reliability improvement skills
- Cross-functional collaboration with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Validation, and EHS
- Knowledge of EHS practices (LOTO, permits, risk assessments) and budgeting/vendor management
