Job Summary
Prepare designs, plans, and cost estimates for electric distribution system projects, including new customer connections and capital expansions. Review development proposals and site plan applications to provide connection requirements, while modeling electrical impacts and preparing Offers to Connect. Conduct field inspections to ensure standards are met, act as on-site contract administrator for civil works, and deliver outage notices to customers. Analyze scan reports to assess equipment condition and create upgrade designs, ensuring compliance with all safety codes and regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD
- Advanced proficiency with SPIDAcalc
- Advanced knowledge of electrical theory
- Advanced knowledge of the Utilities Work Protection Code
- Advanced knowledge of the Construction Verification Program
- Advanced knowledge of Electrical Distribution Safety Regulation 22/04
- Advanced knowledge of EUSA Rules
- Advanced knowledge of various electrical safety Codes and Standards
- Advanced ability to read, interpret and produce technical electrical and civil engineering drawings
- Intermediate knowledge of contracts and contract law
- Intermediate ability to use GPS surveying equipment
- Intermediate knowledge and application of the Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS)
- Intermediate knowledge and application of the Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD)
- Intermediate proficiency with Esri GIS
- Intermediate proficiency with ArcGIS
- Intermediate proficiency with ArcMap products
- Intermediate verbal and written communication skills
- Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements
- Basic knowledge of Book-7 Traffic Control Guidelines
- Basic financial/budget management skills
- Completion of a 3-year Engineering Technology diploma or 4-year Engineering Degree, preferably in the electrical discipline
- Registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET)
- 3+ years relevant experience in overhead and underground distribution system design
- Class G driver's licence
- A Criminal Record Check, to the satisfaction of Utilities Kingston
Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency with CYME Power Engineering
- Certified Asset Management Professional (CAMP)
- Project Management Professional Certification (PMP)
- Working towards or eligible to work towards CET designation within 3 years of hire
