Utilities Engineer

Job Summary

Provide technical ownership and support for all site utility systems, excluding electrical distribution, including wastewater treatment, boilers, chillers, and water distribution. Monitor key process performance indicators, identify deviations, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to improve system reliability. Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, environmental performance, energy efficiency, and operating cost. Develop, justify, and execute capital improvement projects, including scope development, contractor coordination, and commissioning. Support Process Safety Management activities, ensure NPDES compliance, and lead investigations of safety or operational incidents. Serve as acting Utilities Superintendent during periods of absence. Work in an operating chemical manufacturing facility with regular field presence and participation in an on-call rotation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline preferred; equivalent industrial experience will be considered
  • 3 or more years of engineering experience supporting utilities, manufacturing, or industrial operations
  • Experience with wastewater treatment and utility processes preferred
  • Knowledge of PSM, environmental regulations, and continuous improvement methodologies is preferred
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and process engineering skills
  • Commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance
  • Root cause analysis and data-driven decision making
  • Project management and continuous improvement experience
  • Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to prioritize and respond effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Work is performed in an operating chemical manufacturing facility with routine exposure to industrial equipment, outdoor conditions, and required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • The position requires regular field presence and participation in an on-call rotation to support plant operations as needed
