Job Summary
Reviewer/Editor/Certifier for DOJ Linguistic Support Services handling translation, interpretation, transcription of legal and formal materials across formats (documents, audio/video, emails, etc.). Tasks include translating materials spanning legal, medical, financial, technical, and governmental terminology while preserving tone and accuracy; ensuring confidentiality and compliance with ethics; leveraging CAT tools (SDL Trados Studio) and reference resources to deliver precise, legally faithful outputs. US citizenship required; candidate must have ILR 4 or equivalent, at least five years of relevant experience in the target language, and experience with law enforcement or legal departments. Roles may be remote or located within the National Capital Region or other CONUS locations; some travel may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language
- Superior skills in English and editing
- ILR 4 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S.
- At least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- U.S. citizenship
- Bilingual proficiency in English and target language with formal terminology knowledge
- Experience using translation resources, monolingual references, and online material
- Native-language fluency with professional command of non-native language
- Translate accurately without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source materials
- Abide by linguist ethics
- Proficient with CAT tools (SDL Trados Studio)
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Security clearance at Public Trust or higher
- Remote work capability
