Job Summary
Conduct daily farming operations at community farms by planting, weeding, watering, pruning, composting, and harvesting. Manage landscape maintenance through lawn mowing, weed-whacking, raking, and sweeping, while executing horticultural carpentry and masonry projects like constructing raised beds and installing water features. Assist in developing and packaging urban farm products, including beekeeping and honey harvesting, and support workshops, trainings, and special events such as the annual Harvest Luncheon. This 12-week part-time role runs from June to mid-August with a 15-hour weekly schedule.
Required Qualifications
- demonstrate an interest in learning and practicing horticulture
- capable of lifting 40 lbs
- willingness and an ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions, including temperature extremes, rain, and snow
- effective oral communication skills
- ability to follow instructions
- ability to ask questions when challenges arise
- work efficiently independently and in a team setting
- 15 hours a week
- June to mid-August
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred experience in horticulture in farming, gardening, landscaping, or similar work
- Comfort and/or experience with use of basic gardening and landscaping implements, including power equipment used in landscaping or garden carpentry
Additional Requirements
- Must be capable of lifting 40 lbs.
- Must have willingness and ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
