Job Summary
Program Specialist for Urban Agriculture at The Boys’ Club of New York, overseeing and instructing urban agriculture programming for boys ages 12-18 at the Mott Haven clubhouse. Collaborate with the Junior Director and Teen Director to plan and conduct activities in urban gardening and hydroponics; integrate urban agriculture content with wellness, nutrition, and cooking programs; create schedules for watering and plant upkeep; maintain inventory of tools, supplies, seeds, and equipment; teach gardening lessons to groups of 5-10 adolescents; monitor attendance, engagement, and skill growth; model health and safety practices; manage behavior to support positive interactions; review and revise instructional content as needed; complete program reports, lesson plans, supply requests, and timesheets. Knowledge/abilities include project management, flexibility, teamwork, environmental conservation, adaptability to changing needs, and strong communication. Familiarity with Mott Haven/Bronx preferred. The role is based at the BCNY clubhouse in Bronx, NY.
Required Qualifications
- 2 years’ experience in community gardens, greenhouses, hydroponics labs, or other sustainable sources of planted fruits/vegetables
- At least one year’s experience working with a group of school-aged children
- Strong communication and organizational skills
