Job Summary

Independently design, fabricate, and deliver complex upper limb prosthetic and orthotic devices, from initial work order through final QC. Apply advanced knowledge of componentry to select, integrate, and optimize device configurations, including myoelectric and body-powered systems. Interpret clinical specifications and resolve ambiguities without supervisory input. Fabricate custom sockets using thermoplastics and composites, then perform quality verification ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Serve as the primary subject matter expert, advising clinicians on technical feasibility and recommending new technologies. Lead quality improvement initiatives by analyzing root causes and documenting standard operating procedures. Train junior fabricators, assess competency levels, and maintain a safe, organized work area adhering to 5S standards. Manage inventory for upper limb components and assist in workload triage for the Fabrication Manager.

Required Qualifications

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated portfolio of complex upper limb device fabrication
  • Valid driver's license
  • Expert-level knowledge of upper limb prosthetic and orthotic devices, including anatomy, biomechanics, componentry, fitting principles, and fabrication techniques across all levels of upper limb absence and impairment
  • Mastery of all fabrication methods applicable to upper limb devices, including socket fabrication, lamination, thermoplastic forming, and electronic/myoelectric component integration
  • Ability to independently complete the most complex upper limb devices from start to finish using multiple componentry types, with minimal or no supervisory guidance
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent professional judgment on novel or complex fabrication challenges, recommending and implementing solutions autonomously
  • Advanced understanding of quality management systems including NCRs, CAPAs, and quality control processes within a regulated medical device or healthcare environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude and fine motor skills
  • Expert use of laboratory tools, precision measurement instruments, and fabrication equipment
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and planning skills
  • Ability to perform all tasks indicated on the applicable Skills Matrix at the expert level for upper limb devices
