Job Summary
Review code from other engineers to ensure quality expectations are met, then implement control systems for consoles in a clean, extensible manner while investigating performance on target platforms. Test updated code on consoles to verify correctness and modify the game or engine to improve performance. Estimate tasks, deliver them on time, and write clear, maintainable code that passes senior review. Raise blockers to the project lead, document solutions for team learning, and take ownership of large, mission-critical code areas. Coordinate with non-engineering teams to deliver features and propose architecture solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Reside in Japan during employment
- Unreal Engine (4 and 5) experience
- Console game release experience
- C++ as lingua franca
- Ability to deep-dive into the engine for improvements
- Ability to design, test, and debug own code without assistance
- Ability to break down large features into engineering tasks
- Ability to mentor engineers in software development best practices
- Interest in working on both games and their tools
- Confident communication with all company members
- Ability to estimate and deliver tasks timely
- Ability to write clear, maintainable code passing senior review

- Ability to test and document provided solutions

- University degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline
- Relevant professional experience
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience (Japan-based)
- 2+ years of professional experience using Unreal Engine 4 (Japan-based)
- 2+ years of professional experience developing console games (Japan-based)
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience (Overseas)
- 6+ years of professional experience using Unreal Engine 4 (Overseas)
- 6+ years of professional experience developing console games (Overseas)
- Solid software engineering abilities including code hygiene and coding patterns
- Strong experience with C++ and debugging in Unreal Engine
- Comfortable with source code management systems (Git, SVN, Perforce, etc.)
- At least conversational Japanese proficiency (JLPT N3 or above)
- English proficiency (ability to read, write, and discuss technical matters)
- Work 8 hours per day from Monday to Friday
- Core hours between 11:00 and 16:00
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with C#
- Experience with Ruby
- Experience with Python
- Experience with shell scripting (Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine's build pipeline
- Experience with other game engines such (Unity, proprietary engines, or others)
- Worked on at least 1 released game
