Job Summary

Lead counsel on Athletics-related legal matters, providing strategic advice on commercial transactions, sponsorships, licensing, media agreements, NIL issues, and vendor relationships. Draft, negotiate, and interpret sophisticated contracts including services, procurement, technology, and research agreements. Deliver transactional support to the Office of Research and Innovation, covering sponsored research, industry collaborations, and compliance matters. Advise university health schools and administrative units on operational and institutional legal issues. Draft policies, standard templates, and guidance documents while coordinating with outside counsel. Develop legal training and build collaborative relationships with senior leadership across the institution.

Required Qualifications

Juris Doctor (J.D.)
Membership in the California Bar
Eligibility to register as California Registered In-House Counsel
Ten or more years of progressively responsible legal experience
Substantial experience negotiating and advising on sophisticated commercial and institutional transactions
Experience serving as in-house counsel within the legal office of a college, university, academic medical center, or similarly complex institution
Demonstrated ability to independently manage a sophisticated, high-volume transactional practice
Sound legal and business judgment
