Job Summary
Lead the university's accounting operations, financial reporting, and year-end close while overseeing general accounting, accounts payable, and the general ledger. Certify GAAP financial statements, manage internal controls, and collaborate with internal and external auditors to ensure compliance with CSU and GASB regulations. Supervise management and accounting staff, develop talent, and champion continuous improvement across Finance. Interpret federal, state, and accounting pronouncements to safeguard university resources and administer policies for all funds. Prepare reports for the Chancellor's Office and leadership, present training programs, and participate on university committees. Work cooperatively with campus partners to modernize operations and leverage technology for improved efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business administration, or closely related field
- Seven years of progressively responsible accounting management experience, preferably in higher education or a non-profit setting
- At least three years of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid California CPA license
- Advanced degree in Accounting, Tax, Business Administration, or related field
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, business management, and public finance
- Ability to interpret and apply GASB and GAAP pronouncements
- Strong leadership, collaboration, communication, and process improvement skills
- Ability to supervise, train, evaluate, analyze situations, solve problems, and build effective working relationships
- CPA license is required for continued employment if applicable to the appointment
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required
Desired Qualifications
- Technical fluency with Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent information systems, Microsoft Office Professional Suite, and Google applications
