Job Summary
Design and optimize routine experiments for liver disease, regeneration, and cancer research, including tissue collection, processing, and histology/immunohistochemistry. Manage transgenic mouse colony husbandry, breeding, and maintenance while performing molecular biology tasks such as DNA isolation, genotyping, and western blotting. Prepare reagents, order supplies, and maintain accurate experimental records under the supervision of the PI with a degree of independence. Work 40 weekly hours in a basic biomedical laboratory, rotating shifts as required, with an hourly pay range of $45,300 to $77,000.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science
- One year work experience directly related to the assigned research area
- Strong organizational skills
- Record keeping skills
- Interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work with animals (mouse)
- Ability to work in temperature extremes (32° F to 100° F)
- Ability to work in confined/cramped spaces
- Ability to lift materials up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to lift and carry 4 liter waste material bottles a distance of 30 feet
- Ability to lift and carry 25-30 lbs. jugs of liquid a distance of 100 feet
- Ability to lift file boxes, from floor level to counter tops
- Ability to lift 40 lbs. centrifuge rotors
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. boxes
- Ability to push/pull file boxes
- Ability to maneuver heavy equipment on bench tops, 50 lbs. or greater
- Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected
- Ability to match or discriminate between colors
- Ability to hear and recognize various alarms
- Ability to hear and/or understand conversations
- Ability to work in a darkroom
- Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use
