Job Summary
Open Rank - Clinical Microbiologist Director in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at MUSC. The role involves leadership of a busy, full-service clinical microbiology laboratory serving MUSC and affiliated hospitals, interpreting results for infectious diseases using molecular and classical methods, developing and implementing new tests, providing clinical guidance to clinicians, collaborating with molecular pathology teams, and teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and infectious disease trainees. The candidate will ensure quality and regulatory compliance (CLIA, CAP, TJC, HIPAA) and participate in quality improvement, instrumentation/automation oversight, and collaboration with clinicians and researchers to advance diagnosis and understanding of health and disease. The position emphasizes fostering collaborations, education, and patient care within an academic medical center environment.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in microbiological or clinical laboratory sciences with board certification/eligibility from the American Board of Medical Microbiology; or M.D. or D.O. with board certification/eligibility from the American Board of Pathology in Clinical Pathology (or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology) with subspecialty board certification/eligibility in Medical Microbiology.
- Unrestricted South Carolina medical license or eligible for South Carolina medical licensure for physician candidates.
