Job Summary
Unit Secretary functions under the Nurse Manager to facilitate safe, age-appropriate patient care by performing clerical and receptionist duties including computer order entry, data retrieval, maintaining unit supplies, transporting supplies/equipment/patient medications, preparing and maintaining patient charts, providing customer service, and acting as the central communication source on the nursing unit. Core responsibilities include patient care support, confidentiality, patient flow coordination, admissions/transfers/discharges, data entry for patient safety information, unit performance improvement, and liaison between patients and diagnostic areas. Requires High School Diploma/GED and basic computer/communication skills; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Less than 1 year clinical experience in acute care setting
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Computer skills
- Basic medical terminology
- Ability to enter information into an electronic medical record
