Job Summary
Organize workers, identify workplace issues, and execute worksite actions under the direction of the OC Janitorial Division Coordinator and Director. Participate in contract negotiations, coordinated campaigns, and planning for union events, marches, and direct action. Conduct one-on-ones, site visits, and member-led committee meetings to recruit, train, and develop member leaders and stewards. Maintain a database of worksite and worker information while effectively communicating with members and employers to enforce contracts and resolve disputes. Prepare workplans, calendars, and records to manage union political programs. Travel throughout California, work extended and irregular hours, and use a personal vehicle for off-site duties. Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is required.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university in relevant field
- Equivalent experience in labor & community organizing
- Proven commitment to social and economic justice and improving the lives of working people
- Experience working on campaigns with a labor union, public policy, or non-profit organization
- Knowledge of union organizing practice and principles
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in fast-paced and diverse team environment
- Ability to effectively plan and implement work and manage time, as part of a team and individually
- Demonstrated ability to clearly convey information and ideas both verbally and in writing across audiences
- Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail, social media platforms, database & teleconferencing
- Ability to travel in California
- Ability to work extended and irregular hours
- Ability to work off-site
- Valid drivers' license
- Use of a car for work
- Specified automobile insurance coverage
- Bilingual English/Spanish (written & verbal)
