Job Summary
Union Organizer role focused on training and developing member-leaders to build power at worksites and union-wide. Responsibilities include recruiting, mentoring, and coaching leaders; training member-leaders to recruit and mobilize union members; raising COPE funds; creating and fostering a member-leader communication infrastructure; recruiting volunteers for electoral and lobbying activities; developing and executing campaigns on issues such as member rights, contract negotiations, health and safety; enforcing contracts through organizing and advocacy; updating member case information; conducting worksite meetings, grievance and labor-management meetings; preparing work plans and reports; supporting collective bargaining or serving as union chief negotiator; doing outreach such as door-to-door canvassing and lobbying voters and officials; and maintaining relationships with senior management and elected officials. Qualifications emphasize knowledge of organizing methodology, strong communication, ability to work under pressure, and a valid California driver’s license with appropriate auto insurance; bilingualism and contract-implementation experience are strongly desirable. Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required; 3 years’ organizer experience preferred; compensation range $66,560.00 – $74,913.87 per CBA; exempt, salaried position.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
- 3 years’ experience as an Organizer in the labor movement or with a community group
- valid California driver’s license; auto insurance that covers business driving; automobile for personal/business use
- strong commitment to progressive social change and SEIU Local 99 mission
- ability to organize members and build infrastructure at worksites
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- ability to work long, varied hours including evenings and weekends
- proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, Excel; online meeting platforms (Zoom)
- bilingualism strongly desired but not required
- contract implementation experience strongly desired but not required
- must be vaccinated against COVID-19
