Underwriting Director Inland Marine & Property

Job Summary
Own and actively grow a profitable book of inland marine and property business across the region while building and strengthening agency relationships to drive consistent, high-quality new business flow. Evaluate risks, pricing, and coverage structures using experience and judgment, analyzing submissions, loss history, and external data to make informed underwriting decisions. Structure deals creatively using coverage features, deductibles, or reinsurance to meet client and company goals, and meet in person with distribution partners a minimum of 5 times per month. Mentor junior underwriters to strengthen team capabilities. This role supports IAT Insurance Group's mission as the largest private, family-owned property and casualty insurer in the U.S., focusing on expanding our footprint and providing solutions for people and businesses.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field
- 7+ years of inland marine and/or property underwriting experience
- Strong understanding of the insurance marketplace, including inland marine and property products, pricing, and competitive dynamics
- Proven ability to develop broker relationships that support both new and renewal business opportunities
- Confidence in risk selection, pricing, and structuring deals, including the use of deductibles, coverage features, or reinsurance where appropriate
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Must not require VISA sponsorship now or in the future
- Meet in person with distribution partners a minimum of 5 times per month

- Industry designations CPCU, ARM, or AU
- Master's Degree
- Exposure to loss control or risk engineering—you think beyond the submission and into the actual risk
