Job Summary
Reviews applications and financial requirements for risks requiring complex underwriting skills, determining acceptability in accordance with company guidelines. Prepares quotes and answers questions from agencies or policyholders, negotiating with agents to reach profitable outcomes. Analyzes quality, quantity, and profitability of risks underwritten, preparing reports for management review. Markets products through agencies or the brokerage community, making field visits and developing agency relationships. Works with senior underwriters on risks exceeding authority levels, utilizing advanced functionality in relevant CNA systems. This role supports the national wholesale book business, focusing on excess and umbrella accounts. Candidates report to the Underwriting Director and work in a hybrid capacity from the Chicago, IL office.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 5+ years underwriting experience
- 3-10+ years of related experience
- Proven knowledge of underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices
- Demonstrated high level of technical expertise and product specific knowledge
- Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners
- Ability to work independently
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and to make critical business decisions effectively
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software
- Hybrid capacity from our office in Chicago, IL
