Job Summary
Underwrite life sciences business and renewals to achieve profitability across assigned accounts; review submissions, determine classifications, rates, and pricing, and apply policy language and exclusions. Travel frequently across the Northeast to develop broker relationships, market new business, and drive growth; coach colleagues, coordinate with Markel platforms, and pursue cross-sell opportunities within wholesale channels. Collaborates with underwriting management, brokers, and producers to optimize the book of business and profitability, while participating in audits and underwriting meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of current experience underwriting profitable life sciences or related business
- Bachelor’s degree and industry designations (preferred)
- Willingness to frequently travel across the Northeast region for broker visits, industry events, and in-person relationship development
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Proven customer service skills
- MS Office and underwriting system skills
