Job Summary
Underwriter III will prepare written loan analyses for commercial loans ranging from $1,000,000 up to the institution’s lending limit, monitor existing loans via financial reviews and covenant testing, and develop 10-50 page presentations identifying strengths, weaknesses, risk grades, and loan recommendations. The role involves independent data analysis, interaction with lenders and customers to assess creditworthiness, participation in leadership meetings on commercial loans, ownership of the bank’s commercial loan portfolio to mitigate delinquencies and losses, and proficiency in quantitative analysis, heavy use of spreadsheets, and timely delivery under strict deadlines. Travel is required and experience with moderately complex commercial real estate and/or specialty lending (e.g., Land Acquisition and Development, Contractor, Hotel, Senior Housing, Municipal, or Non-Profit lending) is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with significant accomplishment in finance and accounting or commensurate experience and training in credit analysis for commercial loans
- Minimum of 5 years of commercial lending experience with an emphasis on credit and risk management
- Prior completion of formal credit training either through ABA, RMA, or formal internal bank training program
