Job Summary
Coordinate daily underground telecommunications construction activities, leading a crew through underground missile boring for conduit and utility installations. Operate and maintain heavy construction equipment while reading blueprints, utility locates, and customer specifications to ensure projects meet quality standards. Maintain a safe, organized job site by identifying hazards, preventing utility strikes, and completing daily production reports and safety documentation. Communicate progress and material needs to the Construction Manager and assist with site restoration and final project completion. Travel to job sites as required and work overtime or weekends when necessary.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of underground missile boring experience
- Experience operating underground construction equipment
- Knowledge of underground telecommunications construction practices
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, work orders, and utility locates
- Knowledge of underground utility installation and damage prevention practices
- Ability to identify hazards and make safe decisions in the field
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be willing to travel when required
- Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends as needed
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work
- Ability to carry, climb, operate, and work upon an extension ladder (approximately 28 feet high and 75 pounds), ability to climb poles or other structures as needed
- Ability to complete work outdoors, in tight spaces or elevated by bending, reaching, twisting, climbing, and working while standing up to 70% of the time, year-round in all weather conditions
- Ability to occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, electricity and/or powerlines, risk of exposure to electrical shock, radiation, vibration
- Able to follow safety standards, demonstrate a thorough understanding of above-ground clues and use them in conjunction with utility locates, construction drawings, and field conditions to identify potential underground utilities and obstructions, preventing utility strikes and maintaining a safe work environment
- Must provide a valid government-issued photo ID for verification
- a driver's license is required if the role involves driving
- Passing of all pre-employment requirements (MVR, Background Check, Drug Screen)
