Job Summary
Underground Mechanic responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of mining equipment underground and on surface. Performs scheduled PMs, inspections, and repairs on equipment including Sandvik LHDs, drills, haul trucks, Normet utilities, Caterpillar and Komatsu loaders, and auxiliary gear. Diagnoses hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical faults; conducts field repairs underground; follows OEM manuals and site procedures; completes work orders and service records; adheres to lockout/tagout and safety policies; collaborates with operations and maintenance teams; provides feedback on equipment condition and reliability; participates in continuous improvement and helps train apprentices. Prior underground mining maintenance experience is strongly preferred; requires familiarity with the listed brands and ability to read technical drawings and schematics; emphasizes safety and proactive problem-solving in a 7-on/7-off shift pattern near Charlotte, SC.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience in underground mining maintenance is strongly preferred
- Hands-on knowledge of Sandvik, Normet, Caterpillar, and Komatsu mining equipment
- Familiarity with underground support vehicles and light-duty fleet
- Ability to read OEM manuals, hydraulic/electrical schematics, and technical drawings
- Strong diagnostic skills with mechanical, hydraulic, can bus and electrical systems
- Proficiency with laptops and diagnostic software for OEM equipment
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance with mining regulations
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment under demanding conditions
- Effective communication skills to relay technical information and equipment status
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Physically fit and able to work in confined underground spaces
- Must be able to work shift work with 12-hour shifts
