Job Summary
Oversee crew operations for underground fiber optic construction, managing loading, digging, trenching, backfilling, and restoration of disturbed job sites. Operate heavy equipment including skid steers, excavators, and cable plows while performing daily pre-trip inspections and safety checks. Identify utilities in bore paths, erect temporary structures, and maintain a clean, safe work environment. Submit daily time sheets, pre-trip inspections, and job hazard analyses. Manage crew productivity and ensure compliance with safety protocols and OSHA standards. Report incidents immediately and coordinate with city inspectors. This full-time role requires a Class A CDL, 3-5 years of underground construction experience, and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- 3– 5 years' experience in underground construction
- Ability to read maps, plans, and blueprints and convey this information to others
- Experience operating heavy equipment
- Knowledge of proper operation and safety standards of heavy equipment
- 1-3 years' experience operating heavy machinery, including loaders, dozers, backhoes, and excavators
- Traffic Control Maintainer certificate
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Possess a valid driver's license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position
- A good driving record is required
- Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner
- Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe manner
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc
- Willing and able to work in all weather conditions
- Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed with or without assistance
- Class A Commercial Driver's License is a plus (Higher wage scales apply to CDL holders)
- OSHA 10 certificate

- Previous construction experience, preferably in the underground industry
- Ability to follow directions and take initiative when needed
- Develop an understanding of daily maintenance for underground equipment
- Ability to perform all underground procedures and duties
- Ability to travel
