Job Summary
Dig trenches, lay conduit, and pull cable while operating directional boring equipment, excavators, and trenchers to install underground fiber optic infrastructure. Assist with job site setup by locating and verifying existing utilities, then repair damaged equipment and maintain tools and vehicles. Adhere strictly to safety policies through daily briefings and PPE usage, while communicating effectively with supervisors and property owners. This physically demanding role involves extended outdoor work in varying weather, frequent standing and kneeling, and lifting materials over 50 pounds. Extended hours, overtime, and weekend work may be required based on project schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check
- Willingness to learn and participate in on-the-job training
- Position involves physically demanding labor, including lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling materials weighing 50 pounds or more
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and working in and around trenches for extended periods
- Exposure to construction equipment, noise, dust, uneven terrain, and active job sites
- Extended hours, overtime, overnight, and weekend work may be required based on project schedules
- The normal work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm, with extended hours and required overtime when needed; May also include overnight and weekend work depending on project schedules
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in underground utility construction, fiber optic installation, or a related field is preferred, but motivated candidates will be trained
- Familiarity with basic hand and power tools
- Understanding of basic construction principles
- Knowledge of fiber optic color codes is a plus
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in fiber optic or underground utility installation is preferred but not required
- Previous experience in underground utility construction, fiber optic installation, or general construction is preferred but not required
