Underground E&I Technician

Job Summary
Inspect, maintain, and repair underground electrical systems, instrumentation, and communication equipment including PLCs, SCADA, and motor control centers. Diagnose faults in low, medium, and high voltage systems while installing cables, conduits, and control panels. Troubleshoot mobile equipment such as LHDs, drills, and ventilation fans, and respond to emergency breakdowns and maintenance calls. Perform lockout tagout procedures and ensure all work complies with MSHA, OSHA, and site-specific safety standards. Maintain accurate documentation and coordinate with operations and contractors. Requires MSHA certification, rotating shifts, and willingness to work underground in confined spaces.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Associate degree or diploma in electrical technology, instrumentation technology, mechatronics, industrial electrical systems or related fields
- 2-4 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance or related field
- Experience working in underground mining, heavy industrial, or process plant environments
- Knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)
- Knowledge of SCADA systems
- Knowledge of Industrial networking
- Knowledge of VFDs and motor controls
- Ability to use multimeters, megohmmeters, loop calibrators, and diagnostic tools
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work underground in confined spaces and physically demanding conditions
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and emergency callouts
- MSHA Underground Miner certification
- State or provincial electrical license
- Instrumentation Technician certification
- NFPA 70E electrical safety training
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Arc flash and confined space training
