Job Summary
Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) - Mental Health in Winnipeg: nursing student role providing patient-centred care under the supervision of a RN or RPN. The UNE is an unregulated member of the healthcare team, accountable for safe nursing care within the scope of their education and competency, and works in collaboration to assign patient care. Requires current enrollment in an approved nursing education program leading to RN/RPN, minimum 450 clinical hours with a clinical placement in medical/surgical or mental health, and possession of or eligibility for required regulatory checks. Roles emphasize teamwork, communication with patients/families and health-care team, documentation, professional conduct, and adherence to site policies. The position is casual, in-person, with shifts including days, evenings, and weekends, located at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg and aligned with the Clinical unit (U6 Adult MH VH).
Required Qualifications
- Current enrollment in an approved nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse.
- Successful completion of the third year or enrolled in third year with a minimum of 450 hours of clinical practice in an approved nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse.
- In addition to the minimum of 450 hours, completion of a clinical placement in medical/surgical or mental health setting is required in order to work in relevant patient care areas.
- Certification/Licensure/Registration: Registered student in accordance with policies and procedures of the education institution at which they are enrolled in an approved nursing education program.
