Job Summary

The Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) position offers nursing students an opportunity to apply their education toward competency in RN/RPN practice under supervision. UNE provides patient-centered care within a supervised team, with supervision by an RN or RPN, and works in accordance with regulatory and employer policies. This in-person role requires enrollment in an approved nursing program, completion of the third year with at least 450 clinical hours, and a clinical placement in medical/surgical or mental health settings. The UNE must obtain required clearances (criminal background checks and abuse registry checks) and is expected to collaborate with the health-care team, communicate effectively with patients and families, and use clinical documentation technology. The position is Casual, based at Seven Oaks General Hospital in Winnipeg, within the Rehab Geriatrics unit, and may involve Day/Evening/Night shifts and weekends. Required Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in an approved nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse
  • Successful completion of the third year or enrolled in third year with a minimum of 450 hours of clinical practice in an approved nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as RN or RPN
  • In addition to the minimum of 450 hours, completion of a clinical placement in medical/surgical or mental health setting is required to qualify to work in relevant patient care areas
  • Certification/Licensure/Registration: Registered student in accordance with policies and procedures of the education institution at which they are enrolled in an approved nursing education program
  • Acquired competencies in clinical nursing practice to provide safe, quality nursing care, in a supervised assignment
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and request guidance and consultation
  • Accept direction and guidance and constructive feedback
  • Critical thinking skills including clinical judgment, problem-solving, and evaluation skills
  • Communicate clearly, appropriately and respectfully with the patient, family, and members of the health care team
  • Attitude and behavior that conveys respect and dignity of all persons
  • Able to establish professional, safe, inclusive and respectful relationships

  • Demonstrate competencies when working with patients/families, staff, students, and volunteers

  • Physical Requirements: Moderate to heavy physical
