Job Summary
Develop and optimize internal software systems, including data pipelines that ensure seamless data flow between platforms. Collaborate with scientists to automate laboratory instruments and design data visualization tools for analyzing complex datasets. Work within the Technology department to translate laboratory processes into codified solutions while participating in system testing and technical documentation. This 8-month co-op placement runs from September 2026 to April 2027 at Amgen's British Columbia research center in Burnaby, offering exposure to drug discovery R&D processes.
Required Qualifications
- 18 years or older
- Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor's Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
- Completion of one year of study from an accredited from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
- Enrolled in a full time Bachelor's degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
- Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Able to work for two consecutive four month terms
- Strong programming skills or coursework in languages such as Python, Java, Javascript, or C#
- Familiarity with data pipeline tools (e.g., Apache Kafka, Apache Airflow) and data visualization frameworks (e.g., Streamlit, Dash)
- Experience or coursework in automation, particularly related to laboratory instruments
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with non-technical stakeholders
- Excellent organizational, record keeping and time management skills
