Job Summary
Uncertified Laboratory Assistant – Student Trainee will perform pre- and post-analytical processing of laboratory specimens and/or entering requisitions accurately and in a timely manner while ensuring quality control checks and standards are run as required. Your contributions will make a difference and will greatly impact the downstream solutions and treatment critical to saving someone’s life. Responsibilities include accurately entering data and patient/test information for Ministry of Health requisitions, obtaining quality blood samples and other specimens via venipuncture, sorting specimens, performing ECGs, ensuring documentation and samples are completed per SOPs and ready for transport, and maintaining confidentiality while contributing to quality metrics and regulatory compliance. Workstyle is 100% onsite in a casual status with hours Mon-Fri (variable based on operation needs) at Kelowna, Vernon, or Penticton, BC.
Required Qualifications
- Excellent data entry skills (minimum 40 words per minute)
- Registered with Thompson Rivers University MLA Certificate Program
- Completion of Medical Terminology course
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team centered environment
- Nice to have: Knowledge of Omnitech Data Entry system/LIS
- May lift a maximum of 30 pounds as required
