Job Summary
Install and repair fiber optic and coax cable systems, performing intermediate to complex installations, splicing, and service changes for residential and commercial customers. Troubleshoot signal strength issues using test equipment like TDRs and OTDRs, while coordinating underground drop burial work and ensuring compliance with OSHA, FCC, and NESC safety standards. Monitor system drops, record work orders, and educate customers on service usage. Reside within 60 minutes of the St George warehouse, working Tuesday through Saturday with on-call rotation.
Required Qualifications
- 1+ year basic technical telecommunications experience
- current/prior military service with honorable discharge
- 6+ months TDS Telecom Broadband Technician I experience AND the successful completion of a documented progression plan
- 6+ months of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation and repair, or switch training
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
- Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines
- Available for on-call/standby responsibilities
- Willing to work overtime as needed
- Ability to maintain DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements in relation to operating vehicles with a combined GVRW (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of >10,000 lbs
- Ability to dig, lift and climb
- Successful completion of the SCTE Broadband Premise Technician course
- SCTE Service Technician Certification to include Technical Foundation, Customer Service, Troubleshooting; or SCTE BDS Certification; or NCTI Installer Technician Course
- Successful completion of the SCTE Installer Certification

- Reside within a 60-minute driving distance from the St George, UT warehouse

- Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task with limited instruction
- Demonstrated customer service and sales skills
- Effective communications skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
