Job Summary
Perform intermediate to complex installations, disconnects, and service changes for residential and commercial customers, including FTTH, video, and home phone services. Execute underground and aerial construction, repair, and maintenance of fiber optic and coax cable systems while inspecting for NESC safety violations. Utilize test equipment like OTDRs and TDRs to diagnose signal issues, interpret system maps, and ensure work meets OSHA, FCC, and NEC standards. Monitor system leakage, record work orders, and coordinate with contractors for underground burial permits. Educate customers on service usage and promote additional offerings.
Required Qualifications
- 1+ year basic technical telecommunications experience
- current/prior military service with honorable discharge
- 6+ months TDS Telecom Broadband Technician I experience AND the successful completion of a documented progression plan
- 6+ months of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation and repair, or switch training
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
- Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines
- Ability to maintain DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements in relation to operating vehicles with a combined GVRW (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of >10,000 lbs
- Ability to dig, lift and climb
- Successful completion of the SCTE Broadband Premise Technician course
- SCTE Service Technician Certification to include Technical Foundation, Customer Service, Troubleshooting; or SCTE BDS Certification; or NCTI Installer Technician Course
- Successful completion of the SCTE Installer Certification
- Must be willing to work overtime as needed
- Must be available for on-call/standby responsibilities
- Requires being available for occasional travel
- Due to in-field support and on-call requirements, the individual selected for this position will be required to reside within a 60-minute driving distance from the Mooresville, NC warehouse located at: 420 S Academy St, Mooresville, NC 28115

- Upon hire, must successfully complete customer-specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer
- Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum
- Practical knowledge/experience with computer applications or burial construction
- Familiarity with company products and services
- Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task with limited instruction
- Demonstrated customer service and sales skills, as well as effective communications skills (verbal and written) for interaction with internal and external customers
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
- Reliable and responsible, with a strong work ethic dedicated to a team
