Job Summary
Provide bilingual communication support to teachers, staff, and students by interpreting and translating classroom assignments, parent communications, and school activities. Assist students individually in reading, writing, math, and spelling while supporting their transition into an English-speaking environment. Monitor student behavior and safety during classroom activities, hallways, lunch, and bus duty. Prepare instructional materials, lesson plans, and classroom decorations while documenting student progress and learning deficiencies. Coordinate with media center staff for resources and maintain accurate records of student data and attendance.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Demonstrated written and oral linguistic skills in English
- Demonstrated written and oral linguistic skills in a minimum of one (1) target language (Spanish, French, Creole, etc.)
- Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work
- Ability to effectively attend to the needs of school age children
- Ability to arrange, compare, count, differentiate, measure and/or sort data and/or information
- Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others on how to apply procedures and standards to specific situations
- Ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of standard office equipment
- Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and advisory data and information in both English and the designated target language
- Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Ability to calculate decimals and percentages
- Ability to utilize principles of fractions and/or interpret graphs
- Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change
- Ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling
- Ability to lift, carry, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds)
- Visual perception and discrimination

- Ability to perceive and discriminate sounds
