Job Summary

Manage daily food and nutrition services for OCPS students by ensuring operational efficiency, program compliance, and adherence to USDA guidelines. Procure food and supplies, prepare accurate production records, and maintain mandatory federal and state reports. Supervise school food service assistants, train them on safety practices, and evaluate their performance while resolving grievances. Establish communication with parents, school officials, and district staff to represent OCPS positively. Respond to internal and external customers with courtesy and empathy. Maintain accurate attendance records and free/reduced meal applications. Conduct revenue and expenditure analysis to align with district standards. Ensure menus are nutritionally adequate and follow district policies. Replace the regular manager during absences and assist with hiring decisions. Complete the School Food Service Manager Internship or evaluation as a substitute manager.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in school food service in Orange County Public Schools; or five successful years of food service management experience from another school district or other institutional food service company such as a hospital, chain restaurant, theme park, or other approved company
  • Successful completion of Orange County's School Food Service Manager Internship; or successful evaluation as a substitute school food service manager
  • ServSafe certification
  • Must successfully work three (3) months in an Elementary School, in order to be qualified to work as a Dual Manager with a combination of a Elementary and Middle School or an Elementary and High School
  • Must successfully work six (6) months in an Elementary School, in order to be qualified to work in Middle or High School
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, use finger dexterity, grasp, talk, hear, and see at normal levels as described in the physical activity requirements

Desired Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge in the preparation of foods served in Child Nutrition Programs
  • Knowledge of the use and care of all equipment utilized in the preparation of school meals
  • Knowledge of all facets of operations management
  • Demonstrated leadership and management ability
  • Skill in application of principles of personnel supervision
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of computer systems
  • Ability to apply principles of Food Service, Sanitation and HACCP in daily activities
  • Knowledge of applicable county, state and federal school food service regulations
  • Ability to translate standards of Food and Nutrition excellence into daily operations
