Job Summary
Conduct physical education lessons prepared by teachers outdoors with groups of 20+ students while maintaining safety and discipline. Assist in class preparation by setting up equipment, defining field boundaries, resetting for subsequent classes, and storing gear. Manage student behavior through time-outs or referrals to administration, and evaluate performance using objective measurements to inform teacher recommendations. Prepare instructional materials, organize department bulletin boards, and coordinate with media staff for supplemental resources. Record daily attendance, enter student scores, and maintain accurate records of student information.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher
- At least sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited institution of higher education
- Passing the paraprofessional certification exam
- Highly qualified status prior to the start of employment
- Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work
- Ability to effectively attend to the needs and safety concerns of school age children
- Minimum of one (1) year physical education or related experience
- Ability to compile, assemble, copy, record and/or transcribe data and/or information
- Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others
- Ability to use, operate, and/or handle and transport physical education equipment
- Ability to utilize a wide variety of references, descriptive data, and information
- Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form
- Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties
- Ability to exert very moderate physical effort
- Ability to perceive and discriminate sounds
- Visual discrimination and perception
- Oral communications ability
Desired Qualifications
- Previous vocational training or work experience in a licensed childcare environment
- Previous athletic or sports related experience
