Job Summary
Provide classroom coverage for a teacher or classified district employee during absences by referring to lesson plans and notes to conduct routine activities. Monitor student behavior and maintain classroom order while ensuring the physical safety of children and adherence to disciplinary controls. Deliver instruction according to prepared plans, reinforce skills through games or stories, and check student work individually or in small groups. Prepare instructional materials, coordinate with media center staff for resources, and maintain accurate records of attendance, scores, and learning activities. Respond to internal and external customers with empathy while managing emergencies such as fire alarms or evacuations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- demonstrated knowledge of the developmental differences in school age children according to age and physical/emotional disposition
- demonstrated mathematical and reading skills
- ability to professionally and effectively attend to the needs of school age children
- ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds)
- ability to perceive and discriminate sounds
- ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and advisory data and information
- ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- ability to calculate decimals and percentages
- ability to utilize principles of fractions and/or interpret graphs
- ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership
- ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution
- ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria
