Job Summary
Perform ultrasound examinations under physician direction to identify abnormalities for patient diagnosis, ensuring proper patient identification, order verification, and exam preparation. Execute studies per department protocol, review images for quality and accuracy, and complete documentation with accurate time stamps and image storage. Provide patient education, maintain infection control standards, and operate equipment and information systems to ensure high-quality imaging. Assist and instruct students and other radiology technicians in protocols, procedures, and positioning while following protocols for medical necessity, coding, and equipment reporting. Maintain competency in all clinical and technical functions and address patient concerns promptly.
Required Qualifications
- Registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
- Successful completion of one registry pertinent to the department beyond physics (options include OB, abdominal, neuro, breast, pediatric, and vascular)
- Health Services\BCLS - Basic life support (Certification for Healthcare Providers)
- Must have completed a minimum of two additional years of experience relevant to the department post obtaining Ultrasound Tech I
- Primary Children's one of the two years must be pediatric experience
- American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) Registry - Successful completion of one additional registry pertinent to the department beyond Ultrasound Tech I or (SPI + 2 registries)
- Options include Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN), abdominal, neuro, breast, pediatric, Vascular, or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
- Primary Children's one of the registries must be pediatric
- Must be able to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies
- Must be able to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations
- Must have manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy
- Must be able to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients
- Must be able to bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment
- Must be able to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment
- Must be able to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time
- Must be available for Thursday/Friday/Saturday 6:30pm-6:30am shifts
- Must be able to lift up to and including heavy items
