Job Summary

Perform ultrasound examinations under physician direction to identify abnormalities for patient diagnosis, ensuring proper patient identification, order verification, and exam preparation. Execute studies per department protocol, review images for quality and accuracy, and complete documentation with accurate time stamps and image storage. Provide patient education, maintain infection control standards, and assist students and radiology techs in protocols, positioning, and equipment operation. Operate clinical equipment and information systems while adhering to coding, charging, and QC programs. Maintain ARDMS registry and modality-specific competency. Full-time 36-hour shift Thursday through Saturday, 6:30pm to 6:30am. Requires RVT registration and BCLS certification.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have completed a minimum of two additional years of experience relevant to the department post obtaining Ultrasound Tech I
  • Primary Children's one of the two years must be pediatric experience
  • Must have completed a minimum of one registry pertinent to the department beyond physics
  • Options include OB, abdominal, neuro, breast, pediatric, and vascular
  • Health Services\BCLS - Basic life support (Certification for Healthcare Providers)
  • Must have completed a minimum of two additional years of experience relevant to the department post obtaining Ultrasound Tech I
  • Primary Children's one of the two years must be pediatric experience
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) Registry - Successful completion of one additional registry pertinent to the department beyond Ultrasound Technologist I or (SPI + 2 registries)
  • Options include Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN), abdominal, neuro, breast, pediatric, Vascular, or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
  • Primary Children's one of the two registries must be pediatric
  • Must be able to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients
  • Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment
  • Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients
  • Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time
  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy
  • This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc
