Job Summary
Perform ultrasound examinations under physician direction to identify abnormalities for patient diagnosis, ensuring proper patient identification, order verification, and exam preparation. Operate equipment and information systems to produce quality images, review findings for accuracy, and complete studies within time limits. Maintain competency in clinical and technical functions, assist and instruct students and radiology techs on protocols and positioning, and provide patient education while adhering to infection control and sterile techniques. Document procedures accurately and follow protocols for medical necessity, coding, and equipment reporting. Shifts are full-time (36 hours) Thursday through Saturday from 6:30pm to 6:30am at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver.
Required Qualifications
- Must have completed a minimum of two additional years of experience relevant to the department post obtaining Ultrasound Tech I.
- Primary Children's one of the two years must be pediatric experience
- Must have completed a minimum of one registry pertinent to the department beyond physics (options include OB, abdominal, neuro, breast, pediatric, and vascular)
- Health Services\BCLS - Basic life support (Certification for Healthcare Providers)
- Must have completed a minimum of two additional years of experience relevant to the department post obtaining Ultrasound Tech I.
- Primary Children's one of the two years must be pediatric experience
- American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) Registry - Successful completion of one additional registry pertinent to the department beyond Ultrasound Technologist I or (SPI + 2 registries)
- Options include Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN), abdominal, neuro, breast, pediatric, Vascular, or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
- Primary Children's one of the two registries must be pediatric
- Health Services\BCLS - Basic life support (Certification for Healthcare Providers)
- Must be able to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies
- Must be able to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations
- Must have manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy
- Must be able to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients
- Must be able to bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment
- Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items
- Must be able to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment
- Must be able to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
- Must be able to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time
- Must be able to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients
