Job Summary

Conduct patient assessments, explain procedures, and perform comfort measures during ultrasound exams while recognizing pathological states to alter exams for accurate diagnosis. Operate equipment and transducers appropriately, ensure proper documentation of exams and procedures, and report abnormalities to physicians. Manage inventory, stock supplies, and assist with patient transportation and scheduling functions. Participate in quality assurance, in-service training, and continuing education programs required by ARDMS. Maintain accurate patient records, adhere to department policies, and respond to equipment malfunctions by contacting repair personnel. Work independently in emergency situations while collaborating with students and other departments.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medical Sonography
  • Board certification in two to three areas of specialty which includes but not limited to: Vascular, Abdomen, OB/GYN, Breast, Musculoskeletal
  • Annual recertification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
  • Participation in continuing education programs
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • CPR certification within three (3) months of hire
  • Ability to work independently and to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply proper procedures to BHS policies
  • On call status with reporting for duty within 30 minutes
  • Adherence to established health system and Medical Imaging department policies, rules, and regulations
  • Ethical conduct and keeping confidential personal and medical information about patients
