Job Summary

Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with provider orders, department protocols, and regulatory requirements. Review patient history, clinical indications, and prior imaging to confirm appropriateness before imaging, then prepare patients by explaining exams, answering questions, and positioning them for comfort and safety. Operate ultrasound equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images across general, vascular, obstetric, gynecologic, abdominal, small parts, emergency, portable, and procedure-support modalities. Recognize critical findings, communicate urgent results, and assist radiologists with ultrasound-guided procedures while maintaining sterile technique. Accurately document exam details in electronic medical records and maintain exam rooms, equipment, and supplies according to infection prevention standards. Participate in quality assurance activities, train team members or students, and cover hospital, outpatient, weekend, holiday, and on-call shifts as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program or equivalent ultrasound training
  • Clinical experience
  • ARDMS certification
  • Current BLS/CPR certification
  • Must demonstrate strong clinical judgment

  • Ability to prioritize multiple exams and patient care needs in a fast-paced hospital environment
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to assist with patients or equipment of greater weight with appropriate support
  • Must be available for rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage

Desired Qualifications

  • One year of ultrasound experience in an acute care hospital, emergency, or outpatient imaging setting
  • Experience with general, vascular, obstetric, gynecologic, procedural, and portable ultrasound examinations
  • Additional specialty registries
