Job Summary
Perform ultrasound examinations under physician direction for patient diagnosis, ensuring image quality and accuracy across OB, abdominal, and vascular types. Verify patient identification, prepare patients for procedures, and provide education and comfort throughout exams. Document procedures accurately while adhering to infection control and safety guidelines. Maintain ARDMS competency and operate equipment effectively in a fast-paced environment. Support team operations by assisting with training, adapting to schedule gaps, and covering call or holiday shifts as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) - Successful completion of one registry pertinent to the department beyond physics (options include OB, abdominal, neuro, breast, pediatric, and vascular)
- Health Services BCLS - Basic life support (Certification for Healthcare Providers)
- Must provide availability for at least 1 shift per pay period
- All shifts are 10 hours in length
- Variable coverage needs: days, swings, nights, weekends, call, and holiday
- Comfortable working independently
- Willingness to support call coverage, schedule gaps, and last-minute needs
- Ultrasound imaging techniques (OB, abdominal, vascular preferred)
- Patient care and customer service
- Attention to detail and image quality
- Ability to prioritize and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Effective communication and teamwork
- Independent decision-making
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time
