Job Summary

Deliver high-quality, small-group reading instruction to elementary students using the Tutor901 curriculum, facilitating engaging literacy lessons that support classroom learning. Maintain accurate student attendance, tutoring logs, and assessment data records while building positive relationships that promote student confidence and social-emotional growth. Attend all required Tutor901 and Tennessee Department of Education training sessions, participate in coaching and classroom observations, and communicate professionally with school staff and stakeholders. Arrive on time at assigned school sites in the Memphis area during the 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. school day for 45-minute sessions three times weekly. Complete a background check and commit to the mission of Literacy Mid-South.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work at the assigned school site as scheduled
  • Available to work during school hours (approximately 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.)
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Reliable transportation
  • Successful completion of a background check
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Literacy Mid-South

Desired Qualifications

  • Some college coursework or higher education
  • Experience working with school-aged children
  • Previous tutoring, mentoring, youth development, or literacy experience
  • Experience using educational technology (such as i-Ready)
  • Passion for supporting children's literacy development
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Positive, patient, and encouraging demeanor
  • Ability to engage and motivate elementary-age students
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
