Job Summary
Assess student understanding and identify learning gaps for Grades 8–12 learners, then adapt instruction to meet individual needs using a blend of instructional strategies and culturally responsive practices. Deliver one-on-one and small group math tutoring while leveraging educational technology to support problem-solving skills and positive learner identity. Align all sessions with the BC Curriculum within a supportive, respectful environment that prioritizes Indigenous values and community context. Communicate student progress and specific needs with program staff as required. This part-time role operates from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm and supports the shíshálh Nation's Purposeful Community-Based Learning approach.
Required Qualifications
- Strong grasp of Grades 8–12 mathematics
- Experience tutoring or teaching students individually or in small groups
- Demonstrated ability to assess learners and meet them where they are
- Working knowledge of technology that supports math learning
- Understanding of the BC Curriculum
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, flexibility, and a learner-centred approach
- Background in education, mathematics, or a related field
- Experience working with Indigenous learners and communities
- Familiarity with Purposeful Community-Based Learning or land-based learning approaches
- Experience using digital learning platforms or assistive technologies
- Ability to lead with cultural humility, integrity, and alignment with shíshálh values and principles
- A valid Driver's license and an acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
Desired Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in math, teaching, etc., is preferred
