Job Summary
Conduct daily, one-on-one virtual tutoring sessions lasting 15 minutes with the same students five days a week, focusing on foundational reading skills including phonics, phonemic awareness, and sight words. Complete a 7-week Tutor Training Program consisting of synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences, committing to 3+ hours of consistent daily availability between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p. EST. Deliver Ignite Reading's curriculum with fidelity, record student data, and meet performance standards for attendance, punctuality, instruction, and student growth. Arrive on time for all sessions while maintaining strong attendance and representing the program with professionalism. Earn $17.50 per hour during certification and $20 per hour upon completion.
Required Qualifications
- Candidates must be eligible to work within the United States
- Candidates must successfully pass a background check
- Candidates must complete fingerprinting when required by Ignite Reading partners
- Candidates must pass a sexual misconduct and former employment verification check
- Candidates must complete a 7-week Tutor Training Program
- Candidates must commit to a minimum of 3+ hours of consistent daily availability
- Candidates must be able to navigate virtual platforms and personal computer hardware and software (including toggling between multiple screens and tabs)
- Candidates must be able to positively receive and then implement feedback
- Candidates must be able to cultivate trusting, meaningful relationships with students and their peers
- Candidates must be able to focus on outcomes and student learning with high attention to detail
- Candidates must be able to complete and meet deadlines for all ongoing coursework
- Candidates must be able to approach each day of tutoring excited to work with students and hold their promises to them sacred
- Candidates must be able to practice empathy and understanding, hold high expectations for their students, and never ever give up on them
- Candidates must be able to arrive on time for all tutoring sessions and maintain strong attendance
- Candidates must be able to fulfill all duties associated with their role while representing the Ignite Reading program with the highest degree of professionalism
- Candidates must be able to deliver Ignite Reading's curriculum with fidelity and record student data
- Candidates must be able to meet performance standards for attendance, punctuality, instruction, and student growth and learning
- Candidates must be able to complete our Tutor Training Program
- Candidates must commit to 3-hour classes daily for the first 3 weeks
- Candidates must commit to 2-hour classes daily plus a minimum of 1 hour of tutoring daily in what is called 'practicum' for the remaining 2 weeks of the course
- Candidates must attend live synchronous classes and meet deadlines for asynchronous courses
- Candidates must provide a minimum of 3 hours a day of availability between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. EST after completing the first 4 weeks of the certification course
- Candidates must reside outside of California, Illinois, Iowa, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, Seattle, or the District of Columbia
- Candidates must not spend 51% or more of their time living and working outside of the United States
- Candidates must have lived experience related to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion
